Specialist Hip & Knee Surgeon

David has been a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Northampton General Hospital since January 2001, with a specialist interest in hip and knee replacement and sports medicine.

He qualified as a Doctor in June 1990 having also gained a BSc during that time. After completing his specialist Orthopaedic training, David was awarded a years’ fellowship in joint replacement and sports medicine at the prestigious SPORTSMED.SA, Adelaide, South Australia.

David divides his time between NHS commitments and his private practice, providing outpatient and surgical treatment for insured and self-funding patients. He regularly sees patients for primary and revision (redo) joint replacement of the hip and knee. He also has a special interest in knee ligament, meniscal and chondral injuries. Management of trauma plays a significant part of his NHS workload.

He has been the Honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northampton Saints Rugby Club since 2004 and was made club man of the year in 2015. He represented England in the Rugby Students World Cup in 1988 and played for Saracens Rugby Football Club first XV. He continues to play many sports himself. This sporting background gives him unique insight and understanding of the effect an injury has, both physically and psychologically on an athlete.

He attained a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine in May 2013. Privately David operates at The Three Shires Hospital. Outpatient consulting is undertaken there and at The County Clinic, a private clinic he opened with Professor Bill Ribbans in June, 2011.
